Tell your state legislators: Expand the earned income credit

Today, more than 40 million Americans spend time caring for children or elderly family members without pay -- and it's a choice that millions more of us will face as our country's population ages.

Families taking care of their loved ones should have all the support they need. We can start by overhauling our policies to recognize the work of caregivers as valuable contributions to their loved ones and communities -- beginning with the Earned Income Tax Credit.

When the Illinois legislature reconvenes in January, it will consider legislation that would allow unpaid caregivers to benefit from the Earned Income Credit (EIC). Urge your state representative and senator to support it today.
